Jonny Jenkins

My name is Jonny Jenkins, Stef for short, of no fixed address and I’ve been graced with the infectious malady referred to as the travel bug. I have been travelling approximately 6 months a year for the last 8 years. My reason to return home was always to continue with university and little by little I made my way through. With that finished, I have journeyed onto the road indefinitely.

I do my best to get off the beaten path, and stay in a community for an extended period of time in an attempt to learn how they experience what it means to be human. Diversity is the spice of life and my pallet has always leaned towards spicing it up. I am trying to stay longer and go deeper in each new travel, and am driven by the desire to not only see how different cultures live, but also do as they do, and offer a helping hand if I can.

I have now lived in 7 different countries, on 4 different continents, become fluent in 3 languages and made in roads on another 5.

My friends are always asking me how I manage to do what I do when I make less money than any of them, that is why I have started to write my story. If you are looking to turn your travels into a deeper and longer experience, potentially one that doesn’t end, then come along with me, I’ll show you what I’ve learned.

In my travels, I’ve found many reasons to volunteer abroad. Furthermore, after realizing the benefits from learning Spanish and then learning French, I devised a 5 step process to learning a new language and even a decision matrix in order to decide which language to learn next.

In the attitude of living the story of my own life to the greatest extent possible, I’ve amassed quite a collection of little stories, including:

Moby Dick Meets Jaws – A Whale Shark Story
What NOT To Do Scuba Diving in the Galapagos
Arriving in Box in Angers, France
My Indian Friend… Are You Really?
The Hazards of Being a Small Town Traveler
Camel With No Name
A Camel Christmas
Life in a Giant Sandcastle

Still curious? Check out where I’ve been and what makes up my bucket list.

I have a very thick skin and would love to hear from you. So, whether it be positive or negative, any comments are very welcome.
